College Football

America’s association with college football goes all the way back to the late 1860’s that is just a few short of a century and a half. Today, College Basketball enjoys a wide fan base and every year, thousands of people catch the exciting basketball encounters all over the USA. 

How it all began?
Football in America began in the year 1869 with the first ever intercollegiate game in U.S. history. The two teams that took to the field in that monumental game were Rutgers and Princeton University. Rutgers went on to win the game by a score of six to four. The game slowly began to gain popularity. Then came Walter Camp in the early half of the 1880’s and he devised a new set of rules that changed the game into American Football as we see it today.

What Happened Next?
The new guidelines made football much more exciting and fast paced which in turn boosted its popularity tremendously. Over two hundred and fifty colleges around the country embraced the sport in the next two decades. Harvard gave the sport a new dimension by constructing a football specific stadium in the year 1903. Three years later, the forward pass was brought into play for the first time. More relaxation was allowed when it came to passing the ball as per new laws between 1910 and 1912. Changes in scoring rules aided the transformation of football to the heights of becoming the country’s most loved sport.

The sport owes a lot of its popularity to the players and teams that have taken to the field over the years to treat fans to the best of what it has to offer. Just like every other sport, it has had its share of successful dynasties as well that have helped forged a close bond between teams and their fans. Princeton Tigers, Yale Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish among many others laid the foundations. Oklahoma Sooners, Miami Hurricanes, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Texas Longhorns and Auburn Tigers have followed to create their own legacies.

Every college football season brings with it countless emotions that vary from one end of the spectrum to another. That is how it has always been and that is exactly how it will be for as long as the sport is played.
